My Learning's From This Election Cycle

My Learning's From This Election Cycle
August 25, 2016 - Armand Faustin, Contributing Writer

In the span of a few short days, I have learned volumes from this election cycle.  I recently wrote an article titled, Obama, A Day Late And A Dollar Short, where I addressed the seemingly uncaring attitude of Barack Obama.  The CEO of this country who cares more about his golf game and vacation than those who are suffering and homeless in Louisiana.  Perhaps his true colors have come out now that he can’t run for reelection.

Now, after a little over 24 hours since massive and devastating storms have ripped through Indiana,  Governor Mike Pence, who is the Vice Presidential running mate of Republican Nominee Donald J. Trump, leaves the campaign trail and rushes home to his State.  He is on the ground and assessing the situation like any good leader would.  He is seeing firsthand the suffering of the citizens of his State that he has been elected to lead.  Governor Pence truly cares about his office as Governor.  The proof is the fact that he left the campaign trail at a critical time in this election cycle.

One could argue that this is nothing more than political fodder.  Perhaps that is true in his home State where he and Trump will win.  But there is little interest outside of Indiana that he has returned home to handle a crisis.  If anything, it bears more weight upon the Trump/Pence ticket with Pence off of the campaign trail.  Perhaps the seniors PGA circuit can’t bear the thought of Obama missing those critical rounds of golf.  He may not qualify for the tour if he misses 18 holes.

I learned some other interesting facts this week.  I have learned that Hillary Clinton really is close to how Dinesh D’Souza portrays her in, Hillary’s America.  ABC News 7 in Chicago caught Hillary Clinton speaking to a black man.  He is trying to state his opinion and at one point he says I respectfully disagree.  Hillary Clinton fires back at the man and says well I will just go and talk to white people.

Seriously?  Did this woman just say she will go and talk to white people because he had a difference of opinion?  Isn’t she suppose to be all inclusive?  She went on and said that she doesn’t believe that people change hearts, that we need to allocate resources and pass laws.  Wow.  That’s an eye opener.  Clinton is going to talk to white people and Obama needs to golf instead of helping the people of Louisiana.

Finally, I have begun to understand that Donald Trump can change.  He is becoming more forgiving, if you will.  He is becoming more tempered and it is obvious that he is not what the media and Hillary Clinton has portrayed him as, namely a my way or the highway guy.  It appears that that is not the case.

For what it’s worth, it's been a disappointing and enlightening week on many fronts.
