The Time Has Come

The Time Has Come
August 26, 2016 - Kevin Harley

From day one, I have always supported Dallas Cowboy’s quarterback Tony Romo.  Time after time blowing big plays, and injury on top of injury, the time has finally come for the Cowboy’s and her fans to say goodbye to number 9.

His career will go down as a good solid NFL career, with one caveat, no Superbowl ring.  No bragging about being the best.  In fact, currently, Tony Romo has the third highest quarterback rating of all time.  It’s 97.1.  How about NFL great Troy Aikman?  81.6 ranked 50, with 3 Championships.  Brett Favre tied for 22 at 86.0.  Tom Brady has a 96.4 coming 6th overall.  And Payton Manning, last years Superbowl winner ended his career at number 5 with 96.5.

Tony had a great run and he is an all star.  After the preseason game against the Seahawks last night, he once again leaves with an injury.  Even though Romo walked off the field after the hit, and according to Romo on dallascowboy.com, “that was probably as tough a hit I took on the back as I have in the last five years.”

But let’s face it, Dallas can’t keep hanging its hat on a star who is as injury prone as Romo.  I am not saying to cut Romo completely from the team, but rookie Dak Prescott is ready and eager to move into the starting position and move the team forward.  For Dak’s first two preseason games, his quarterback passer rating is 156.4.  22/27 for 338 yards 6 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.

Pretty impressive for his first two games in the preseason.  With Elliott in the backfield, what do the Cowboys have to lose?  The season is promising if the Cowboys make the right move and limit Romo’s on field time and help  groom the young rookie who has exceptional talent and a will to win.
