The Most Important Election In History
The Most Important Election In History
August 15, 2016 Kevin Harley
Inevitably, every four years, the drums beat and the people chant the same exact thing as they did four years ago. And that chant always has been just what it is, a chant. But perhaps, it's something entirely different this cycle. When we hear the chant this year, “this election is the most important election in the history of The United States”, perhaps there is some actual truth behind it.
What made me take pause, and really consider the chant and rhetoric of each party's convention, was what former New York City Mayor, Rudy Giuliani said in remarks on the opening day of the GOP convention in Cleveland. He actually took it a step further, when he said, “There’s no next election. This is it. There’s no more time for us left to revive our our great country. No more time to repeat our mistakes...:”
Was he serious? Was this a factual assessment of the state of the union? Or political rhetoric?
The statement by itself has significant ramifications and has made me wonder if there is any truth behind it. So, I decided to start paying attention closely to the major media sources; NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, FOX, well, you get the picture. The media has now driven this statement home, for me with significant force. Here is why. On Friday, August 12, 2016, NBC Nightly News and ABC News didn’t report the general election polling results. The latest general election poll was conducted by the LA Times and USC. Trump vs. Clinton the result was Clinton +1. A dramatic swing in the polls showing a major turnaround for Trump. What they focused on instead, were key States that Trump was losing. Their take, basically, was that Trump couldn’t win the election because of these critical States.
But guess what? I switched over to ABC, and David Muir and their crew reported the exact same story. The stories that ABC and NBC reported were so similar that I thought that the same person had written both stories.
Are these media giants attempting to influence the results of the general election?
Consider this, most American’s make their decision for the office of President based on news reporting and the soundbites from the candidates that the media conglomerates choose to show. Take NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt. He said that Trump refused to endorse Speaker of the House Paul Ryan. But that’s not what Trump said. What Trump said was, “I’m not quite there yet.” Trump endorsed Ryan several days later. Which oddly enough was pretty much was the same thing that the Speaker said about endorsing Trump months before the convention.
I switched to ABC. You guessed it. The exact same story. Again, so similar in nature to NBC that an average person would think the same person wrote the story.
Lester Holt and David Muir weren’t the only one who spun Trump’s words. Many other conglomerates spun the story the same way. Was that spin truthful? Absolutely not. It was a straight up lie. Trump never refused to endorse Speaker Ryan. Several days later, Trump endorsed, and everyone knew that he would, including Lester Holt and the rest of the individuals who falsely reported that story. These are but two example of lies that the media perpetuate.
There is a definitive downward spiral in this country. Our values, respect for life, division of citizens and the lack of adherence to the law has continued to decline at a precipitous rate. Additionally, the financial recklessness that has taken place from Washington to corporate America is unmatched in history. We have seen officers gunned down in cold blood in Dallas and Louisiana in the span of a few short days, not to mention officers gunned down in their car in New York City and others across the nation. The inverse is true as well. Officers have gunned down citizens and an alarming rate. We have become a nation of violence. At times, it almost seem as if much of the country has a blood thirst. Citizens and the government alike are asking why? What brought us here? And perhaps the most salient question what is the root cause?
A quick abbreviated lesson in history might help to answer some of the questions that we are facing today. I know, I know, history. Dates and places and sometimes extremely obscure events. I remember learning about the Triangle T-Shirt Fire in the 8th grade at Evergreen Junior High School in East Millcreek, Utah. Crazy that I remember the lesson but not the teacher! I digress. The fact is that history repeats itself over and over and over again. It seem that we humans always think that somehow we can do the same thing that was done in the past and expect to exact a different result.
The Roman Empire was an empire of power and great influence upon the world. They were dominant, with an unstoppable military force, and an economic power. But still they fell. Why? The politicians, and indeed the entire government, become extremely corrupt. They put themselves in front of the country and it’s citizens. The government became divided, fractured and polarized.
This divisiveness trickled down to the population. These leaders of the government, who were fed off exacting power and getting rich off of it’s citizens, brazenly lead their countries into ruins.
Eventually, the military’s power and strength were dramatically reduced by leaders and by spreading the military they had too thin. The once military might to be reckoned with, no longer had the strength to defend itself, let alone launch offensive attacks.
Infighting and rioting became prevalent. And interestingly enough, they had serious financial troubles which were so bad that troops couldn’t be paid regularly. The country was divided into classes. Seizing on the discord in the country, and the loss of their moral compass as a people, smaller, less powerful groups started to attack. What did the leaders do in the midst of this obvious crisis? Well, the corruption of the leaders got worse and worse. Does any of this sound familiar? Rome isn’t the only country to fall. Each fallen country has a similar story. The fall of these empires took time, but nonetheless, the stories are all similar in nature.
In the last 7 years President Obama has had to address the nation 17 times on mass shootings in this country. The most of any President in history. The old adage that history repeats itself if based in fact. This type of a decline rests solely in the hands of the leader of the nation. President Obama talks about following the rule of law, but he himself refuses to follow the rule of law and by doing so, sets the example and precedent for it’s citizens to act in the exact same manner.
One only needs to study the actions of President Obama to understand that this violence and moral turpitude is the direct result of his actions. It was President Obama that chose to ignore the law and defend the defense of marriage act. Whether you agree or disagree with the law, it was still the law of the land and he is required by the Constitution to defend and enforce the law.
It is against federal law to sell and use marijuana. Yet, we have a President, Attorney General and FBI Director who refuses to enforce the laws that are being blatantly violated in certain States in this country. Again, whether you agree or not, it is still the law of the land and he has a constitutional mandate to defend that law.
Hillary Clinton violated the Espionage Act under the law that was passed by Congress. Yet, we have a President, Attorney General and FBI Director who refuses to prosecute. Apparently Director Comey didn’t read the Espionage Act. To violate the Espionage Act, one must only commit “gross negligence.” The question isn’t did she intend to violate the act, the question is did she commit gross negligence? Director Comey answered that question in the affirmative.
The fact is that if any average everyday citizen did what she did, we would be charged without hesitation and we would be convicted. What Director Comey and Attorney General Loretta Lynch did was violate their oaths of office. They refused to uphold the law and prosecute. It makes no difference whether you like Hillary Clinton or not, under the Espionage Act, she committed a crime and she should be prosecuted.
President Obama and his entire administration lied about the attack in Benghazi on September 11, 2012. They lied to America, they lied to the world and most importantly they lied to the families of those who lost their lives. They blamed the attack on an internet video, but knew from the moment that the attack began that it was a coordinated and well planned attack and not the random act of a flash mob. Were they honest and truthful? The answer was no. They lied.
What’s equally as troubling is that the media and major news conglomerates are covering for these people. They don’t report the truth and they are complicit in helping to make excuses for criminal behavior of this administration and for Hillary Clinton.
The answer to the question? “There’s no next election. This is it. There’s no more time for us left to revive our our great country. No more time to repeat our mistakes...:” Rudy Giuliani’s statement is exact.
