The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States of America is by far, one of the most important and critical elements of the Bill of Rights. Think for a moment the power and impact of what the Bill of Rights really is. As Americans, not illegal aliens or visitors from other nations with green cards. They are our rights and the Government is not allowed to infringe upon those rights.
This is the text of the First Amendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, or abridging the freedom of speech or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Let’s face it. Americans have a significant problem with terrorism. Of course it’s not just here where the problem exists. There are very few countries who have been free from acts of terror. This is a systemic problem that has reached epidemic proportions worldwide. No one really knows how to stop this crazy behavior rationally. And for American citizens, the problem might lie in the First Amendment itself.
As American’s we look at things, whether we realize it or not through the eyes of the Constitution. We study and learn about it early in school. Herein lies the problem with progressives. They apply the rights of the Constitution to every person in every nation of the world. But the reality is that they only apply to American citizens.
We witnessed a very unnerving and unsettling chain of events this weekend when Ahmad Kahn Rahami allegedly placed bombs in New Jersey and New York. We were lucky. If the explosives worked the way that they were supposed to, many more people would have been wounded and many could have died.
Rahami, 28 was found lying in the entrance of a bar in New Jersey. A shootout incurred and Rahami was hit by gunshots and taken into custody. This happened after law enforcement decided to push a text message to citizens phones of individuals living in the area.
Rahami, and other so called lone wolf attackers in America are the biggest concern to the FBI. They have difficulty isolating these individuals and their plans. Law enforcement finds out with the rest of us that an attack has been planned.
Most of these attackers have been citizens of America and Islamic. President Barack Obama has refused to call these people radical Islamic terrorists. In a speech earlier this year, he finally fired back at Republican Nominee, Donald Trump about using the phrase “radical Islam”.
“And let me make a final point. For a while now, the main contribution of some of my friends on the other side of the aisle have made in the fight against ISIL is to criticize the administration and me for not using the phrase “radical Islam.” That’s the key, they tell us. We cannot beat ISIL unless we call them radical Islamists.
“What exactly would using this label would accomplish? What exactly would it change? Would it make ISIL less committed to try to kill Americans? Would it bring in more allies? Is there a military strategy that is served by this?
“The answer is none of the above. Calling a threat by a different name does not make it go away. This is political distraction.”
“The problem that America has, and really the whole world for that matter, is that they are failing to see ISIS and these lone wolf attackers for what they really are.” Stated Scott Sneddon, Senior Political Director for The Times of America. “These are individuals who have no loyalty to family, friends or country. They only have loyalty to the religion of Islam. That makes these terrorists much more difficult to combat and proactively defend our cities.”
Sneddon continued, "Obama refusing to label them “radical Islamic extremists” is dangerous to our national security by not defining the fact that they in fact are religious extremists and not a group such as the Palestinians from the seventies into the new millenia. They fought to establish their own homeland. ISIS is fighting for their religion to take control and rule really every corner of the Earth.”
Religious freedom is our guaranteed right, and each citizen regardless if your religion is Christian, Atheist, Muslim, Buddhist or whatever it maybe, has the duty to demand that each of us be allowed to worship God peacefully and without interference.
But that right that we as American citizens have does not carry over to refugees from foreign lands. Obama and Clinton believe that the solution to stopping the terror attacks is to bring them to our soil. Somehow allowing individuals who cannot be safely vetted is going to make things more secure. David Muir and ABC World News spun the story about vetting the refugees as safe and nearly foolproof. The reality is far from the truth and the story was run to help bolster Clinton’s sagging numbers in the polls.
Today on a regional radio talk show, KSL’s Doug Wright address this issue. He made a point that the chance of a person being attacked by a refugee was 1 in 3 billion. What Mr. Wright, along with the rest of the media fails to understand is that the President swears to defend the Constitution, and by virtue of that, defend the people, from all threats both foreign and domestic.
The argument isn’t are these people suffering? Yes they are. The argument instead is our president defending the Constitution, or mostly defending the Constitution? Doug Wright, David Muir and many others are either missing the point of the Constitution, or they are ignoring it to promote a candidate who violated the espionage act.
And so what is the solution? Burning the Islamic Center of Fort Pierce, Florida because a radicalized Islamic extremist worshipped there is not the solution. We each need to protect each others rights to worship God. But each of us must also be a good friend and neighbor to all. Be vigilant and report suspicious activity. However, by identifying the cancer that exists within an organization or religion, we can begin to change tactics and become more effective at combating the religious extremists who are bringing so much pain to so many people.
